On the second run over the Golden Hollow stage Peadar Hurson did not really improve on his earlier time, but was still fastest and has increased his lead to 48s over Frank Kelly. The battle for 2nd and 3rd place between Kelly and Bradley continues unabated, but Kelly is giving no quarter and continues to have the edge. Much to Camillus` frustration! When Hurson reached the control here at Kildress he reported all well but the Subaru dash display has given up the ghost that makes life a little awkward for the Co. Down man. In the few seconds that he had to spare here at the control Frank Kelly was quickly out of his Escort to check the tyre pressures. Interestingly, Frank runs different makes of tyre, with different characteristics for front and rear.

First time through that Golden Hollow stage Camillus had backed off slightly as he had had a report of some oil on the stage, but 2nd time through he reckoned it was all clear, and he was 3s faster than his first visit. Mark Donnelly is improving by the stage as he gets more accustomed to the sequential change on his Lancer. Rob Duggan had a brilliant run through that stage 4 to move ahead of his R2 rival Jon Armstrong by almost 3s. Rob was fairly cool about the whole thing and he said. `It went OK. I am happy out.` When asked about the pressure of trying to beat Jon Armstrong Rob said. `No pressure. The main thing is to get this new car home to Killarney all in one piece`

For his part Jon Armstrong did not seem too upset about losing the few seconds. He said that the jack handle came loose and was rumbling about the floor of the car. Also he feels that the suspension set up does not really suit that stage. Indeed, Jon dropped time on that one on their first visit. Young William Creighton is on his very first proper closed road special stage rally and is having an absolute ball. He seems to be running very lat after stage 3 but he explained to us that he got stuck behind Dickie Hall`s crashed Sierra Cosworth, and that caused the delay. Another Historic car to leave the fray was Stanley Orr`s Mk1 Escort which crashed through a hedge and down a drop into a field. It was most un-Stanley like, but thankfully no one was hurt. Damian Toner dropped a few seconds and a few places on the leaderboard when his Escort spun and stalled in SS4. Shane McGirr has tweaked the suspension and steering set up on his Starlet and was a lot happier and faster through stage 4. Clive Kilpatrick continues to lead GpN from Simon Woodside – both in Lancers.
