Following today`s 8 high-speed special stages through the West Cork countryside Donagh Kelly has an almost 50s overnight lead from Keith Cronin. Garry Jennings/David Moynihan were 2nd earlier but slipped to 3rd with a spin at the hairpin on the famous Ring stage. Alastair Fisher was pushing hard to close the gap on the leaders but crashed his Fiesta out of 4th place at the end of a 600-yard straight in stage 8. Alastair and co driver Gordon Noble are uninjured but that is the end of a very courageous drive from the young Fermanagh man.

Overnight leader Donagh Kelly seemed remarkably unflustered as he set off in his Focus WRC for parc ferme at the Model Village in Clonakilty. He was anxious to know what Cronin`s time was on stage 8, so is certainly not relaxed about his position. Keith Cronin did say that he had made a few adjustments to his Citroen, notably to the rebound in the rear suspension. Keith also said that although he is in a more comfortable position for tomorrow, particularly with regard to Clonakilty Blackpudding Tarmac C/ship points, he was really sorry to see Alastair out of the rally as they were having a great battle. Garry Jennings reported another stall in stage 8, his second of the day. This one happened at a slippy junction. He went on to say that the Subaru engineer pulled back the engine mapping for the wet weather in Galway and the mapping is still on the same setting. Garry tried to get an engineer for today but it did not work out, and he said. `It felt good this morning in the wet, but I have no man here to put it on the dry settings.
