Since this West Cork Rally first took place back in 1977 when Billy Coleman won in his Escort no driver has ever scored a hat-trick of wins, until now. Donegal man Donagh Kelly, co-driven this year by Conor Foley in their Focus WRC, has scored a start to finish win to make it 3 victories in 3 years. Donagh drove a cool, calm and collected rally, always very fast and his Focus WRC gave no problems. Keith Cronin & Mikie Galvin suffered a puncture on their Citroen on the penultimate stage, but they battled through that to take a fabulous 2nd place overall, and increase their lead in the Clonakilty Blackpudding Tarmac Championship. Garry Jennings had the upset of having to swap co-drivers on the morning of the start, but was full of praise for David Moynihan and his ability to read the notes written by Rory Kennedy. The engine of Garry`s Subaru was not quite set up for the fast stages here in West Cork. This meant that he had to drive a steady rally rather than a heroic one, and he was happy enough to settle for 3rd place, following a spin on the Ring stage. The Moffett brothers, Sam and Josh, had a terrific battle throughout the 2 days of the rally, with Sam`s Fiesta R5 just pipping the identical car of his brother Josh. This means Sam finishing 4th and Josh 5th. It also means Sam going into 2nd place on the Tarmac Championship on 26 points to Josh`s 22. Keith Cronin has 32 points. Josh experienced a soft brake pedal in his Fiesta towards the end. David Guest & Paddy Robinson have won Group N here today and also lead the GpN points in the Tarmac Championship. Callum Devine leads the R2 points from William Creighton.

Brian Brogan had a brilliant run on the National Rally to take victory and it certainly went down to the wire towards the end, as he came under pressure from Alan Ring. News just in is that Frank Kelly has retired his Escort because of a broken differential. James O`Mahony had been leading the Historic Rally but bent the axle of his Escort on a 90 right corner and this has allowed Phillip Wylie to move into the Historic lead with 1 stage remaining. In the Junior Rally Fergus Hurley/Eric Deane were leading in their Escort with 2 stages to go.

Finally for now congratulations to the Greg McCarthy and all his hard working team as well as the residents of Clonakilty and district who have put so much into making this West Cork Rally such a success. Many thanks to everyone who helped and supported with our Rally News service.
