There was light rain falling when the first cars reached the stage of the Banagher stage. However it has been so dry all week that the actual forest tracks were dry. That did not help Derek McGarrity though who had overheating problems with his Fiesta. Also out is Pat O’Connell having travelled up from Co. Tipperary His Lancer is stuck in a ditch of the very first corner of Banagher. Marty McCormack, who has Greg McCormack’s daughter Caron co-driving, and he said at stage finish. ‘That was a great job and Caron did well on the Patterson notes’. Second placed Desi Henry found the stage surface very loose.

Derek McGeehan was very close to the top pace and reported no problems. Kenny McKinstry said at stage finish that he was just bedding in and reckoned his Subaru was on the wrong tyres and he found it very slippery.

Further stories included – Ger Lucey had intercom problems in his Lancer. Mark Donnelly reckoned he was too cautious at the start but still set a good time. Darren McKelvey’s Lancer hit a bank but he got away with it. Robert Moffett said he was getting into the groove with the Fiesta WRC. Oran Donnelly set the fastest 2wd time on 4.10.7. Shane McGirr recorded 4.11.6. Seamus O’Connell 4.12.7. John Gordon 4.16.1 and Mickey Conlon 4.16.7. John Gordon said he felt his Escort suspension was set too soft. Oran Donnelly commented. ‘Good run but safe’. Seamus O’Connell had intercom problems.
