On stage 2 Garry Jennings was again fastest by just over 2s from Kenny McKinstry with Declan Boyle a further 2s back. Jennings still has worries over his Subaru engine, the oil light is flashing at low revs and the pressure is reading 2.5 bars instead of 4.0 bars. Kenny McKinstry tried different tyres on that run, intermediates, but he felt that it took them a while to warm up. Declan Boyle was disappointed that he was not closer to the leader through the stage and does not fully understand why. He reckons he was on the right tyres. Derek McGeehan in 5th place was slightly faster than his time through stage 1, but would like it to be a whole lot better. Robert Woodside was another driver who thought he had improved his time when in fact the opposite was true. Robert commented. ‘We changed the set up in the car a little and it was better but unfortunately the conditions changed with the onset of rain’.

In the battle of the Escorts Damien Toner was quickest with a time of 2.21. Keith White said he was braking just a bit early on the wet roads and he was 2s slower this run on 2.23. Frank Kelly was slightly slower on 2.25 and Adrian Hetherington had a very good run to record 2.23. Shane McGirr in the Starlet RWD found the conditions a little patchy, both because of the rain and little bits of mud pulled out by the cars in front. John Devlin had a spin on the first stage and then a decent time on the 2nd to hold 20th o/a. Stanley Ballantine in the Group N Lancer reported that he mowed down a couple of cones but thankfully missed the trees. Derrick Jobb in the Skoda S2000 is well down the order and at stage finish he said. ‘Too many years and not enough miles’.

Alan Smyth in his Suzuki and Kyle White in his Citroen C2R2, two young tigers, are having their usual close battle with Alan 0.6 of a second ahead after 2 stages. Kyle White’s co driver Sean Topping said ‘We are being quick and neat, trying to stay away from the sheep!’ Drew Wylie leads the Historic section from Bob Adamson, both in RS1800 Escorts. Drew said at the finish of stage 2 ‘Must be doing something right, Barbara (co driver) is smiling!’
