With just the second run over Rossmore remaining Donagh Kelly and his co driver Conor Foley are keeping their Focus very much in the middle of the road. It is all about the fifth West Cork chequered flag for Donagh now. Josh Moffett in 2nd place has the racing throttle syndrome on his Fiesta sorted out. Sam Moffett reports no hassles. Declan Boyle continues to struggle with his Fiesta WRC rear suspension. There is a back wheel wandering about with a mind of its own. Desi Henry’s great battle with Robert Barrable lost its sting when Desi spun his Fiesta R5 in a wee narrow place in the Sams Cross stage, and had to do a bit of autotesting to get back in the right direction. Desi lost over 20s. Another to lose time in that stage was Jonny Greer. His Fiesta caught a rock that punctured a wheel and in respect to the hired car Jonny immediately stopped and changed the wheel, losing well over 4m.

In his battle to regain the group N category from Willie Mavitty, David Guest has had his Lancer in the wars. He bashed the driver’s door of his Lancer against a bale and smashed the glass. That was in Ardfield. He put a sheet of polythene over the window for the Sams Cross stage, but it was flapping so loudly he could not hear the pacenotes! Callum Devine continues to set a cracking pace to hold 11th o/a and best R2.

In the National category Gary Kiernan set another fastest time in stage 13. John Dalton’s challenge has faded, although he holds on to 2nd place. John spun the Darrian in stage 11 and damaged the rear suspension plus punctured a tyre. The rear wheel is now skewhiff and the car is hard to drive. Adrian Hetherington has dropped way back to 22nd place having stopping to change a wheel in Ardfield. There is a massive battle promised for the final stage between John Bonner and Jason McSweeney for 3rd place. They are separated by 0.1 of a second! This is Jason McSweeney’s local stage!
