Charlie Donnelly was first on the road through that Churchtown stage and he commented at the end of the stage. “The road was nice and dry but a bit dusty, the car was pushing the nose and I lost the brakes a wee bit at stage finish, but overall no bother”.

Connor McCloskey’s Subaru came to a halt with plenty of smoke from the wheels, Connor admitting to not committing himself and it showed in his time, 10s down on Donnelly. There was a strong smell of brakes as well from Connor’s Impreza which would indicate he had been working the pads hard.

Sean Devine had a good time but confessed he had had a few pretty big moments. Peadar Hurson as ever displayed raw speed despite being a bit rusty and not having been in a rally car for some time. He was fastest, although by only a fraction of a second from Donnelly so these two could have some battle during the day.

Young Scottish driver David Bogie was quite a few seconds down. David said that his Corolla was suffering from a severe misfire. Seamus Heron went surprisingly well despite not being accustomed to the Seamus Leonard Subaru. Seamus felt that the was going down the gears just a little too much for some of the corners.

Raymond Johnson had a disappointing time for the stage. He said that the Subaru was filling up with smoke during the stage and that obviously affected his performance somewhat.

George Robinson was next due through the stage but his Subaru was stationary at the start of the test because of some mechanical problem.

Cathal Rogers was the first of the group N cars through and he felt he was braking just a little too early. We stayed long enough to see Eoin McErlean through and he said that he felt very rusty, his time was 6.52.0.

Wesley Patterson had a great run in his Mk2 Escort although Adrian Hetherington was just 4s slower. There was a fierce smell of petrol from Adrian’s Mk2 at stage finish so hopefully it will be alright. Aidan Toner had a time of 6.47.3, Aidan driving Camillus Bradley’s Escort having damaged his own in a testing accident earlier this week. Declan McNaughton came through on a time of 6.52 and reported no problems. Still to come through the stage was Brian Quinn/Patsy Corr, Ardboe man Patsy currently “walking out” with rally organiser Lee Averill. Patsy is celebrating his 42nd birthday today. We also wait with interest a time for Seamus O’Connell. Seamus is driving a brand new Mk2 today and no doubt he will be giving Wesley Patterson and Adrian Hetherington a race…..
