Peadar Hurson was fastest on stage 2 while 2nd fastest was young David Bogie by half a second from Charlie Donnelly. Connor McCloskey settled down on that 2nd stage and although he had a slight delay at the acute hairpin was much more on the pace with Sean Devine through that Broughderg test.

Peadar Hurson commented. “I’m still very rusty, not fully committed over the fast mediums and medium corners. I got one of the squares wrong as well and ended up in the bog. I got straight out again which isn’t like me”. Peadar, who is driving the ex Patrick Elliott Impreza WRC S10 for the first time, continued. “This is a different car from before, you can’t power through the tight stuff”. As well as that, Peadar’s co driver Allan Harryman made an interesting observation. “I’m getting used to Peadar and he’s getting used to me calling the notes”.

Charlie Donnelly in 2nd place said. “Everything is 100 per cent. The car is still pushing the nose but I think that’s the nature of the day. I enjoyed that stage, I still feel a bit rusty, but then my joints are rusting up anyway!” Connor McCloskey explained his slight delay. “We stalled the engine and it wouldn’t restart. I got too sideways over the gravel, panicked, dipped the clutch and that was her gone. But I’ve settled now, co driver Francie hit me a clip on the ear!” Sean Devine told us. “I was being a bit careful on the first stage, one slip and you’re in a hole. Probably could have gone a bit quicker on that stage”. Sean went on to say that he obviously has one eye on the NI Championship.

David Bogie explained that his slow time on the first stage due to a misfire was down to a faulty map sensor which they were able to change. He went on to say. “I’m struggling a bit with the braking points, just braking a little early, but then if you brake late it can slide on. I’m enjoying it, there’s plenty of spectators, even helicopters. A great atmosphere, its awesome!” Seamus Heron is still bedding into driving the Subaru and reported that he fluffed the start of that 2nd stage, he also is braking a bit early but overall everything is fine.

Raymond Johnson is still lowing time because of smoke coming into his Subaru mid stage. Cathal Rogers set a scorcher of a time through that 2nd stage, he said he didn’t feel comfortable on the opening test, and his son Eoighan is really getting on to reading the notes. Wesley Patterson dropped 8s to fellow Mk2 Escort driver Adrian Hetherington on that 2nd stage, Wesley said that he just wasn’t comfortable with that stage and pulled his horns in. We mentioned earlier that we waited for a time for Seamus O’Connell. He has dropped 3 minutes on the opening stage with a puncture and reports his new Escort to be very tail happy and clipped a kerb. Eoin McErlean changed the diff controller setting on his Lancer going into Broughderg, or Rousky as most people call it, and it seemed to help the car.

In the Citroen C2R2 Cup Marty McCormack was fastest through the opening stage from Monaghan man Martin Tynan with Barry Evans 3rd, just 11s covering those top 3. Paul Manton, who has travelled all the way from Kilkenny was 4th fastest. Sean Agnew rolled his example while Martin Laverty did not get started because of gearbox troubles pre-start. Killian Duffy is not registered for the Cup, but he did a very respectable time in his Derrick Jobb hired machine which would have put him 6th fastest on the first stage.
