Please notes: These times are provisional. We are waiting for times for Leonard Downey who was 7th o/a but is now running late having slilghtly damaged the front of the car and stopped to put water in the radiator.

Out at the front of the rally John Dalton gave his all through the very fast Ardfield stage and was 8s faster than Liam McCarthy and then through stage 14 Liam’s Corolla was 3s up on the Dalton Darrian. Tight stuff indeed but most importantly for Liam McCarthy he has a 27s buffer with 2 stages remaining. Liam commented. “That last stage was a bit gravelly but we made no mistakes and couldn’t’ do much better. Ardfield is really too fast for this car”. John Dalton said when he looked at the times. “I’m so disappointed. I am giving it everything it’s a good battle though”. Third placed Denis Cronin is just trying grimly to hold on to his position and is treating his Subaru gearbox with kid gloves as 4th, 5th and 6th gears are all giving problems.

Keith Cronin continues to lead group N and the Evo Challenge contenders and when he arrived into service he said. “We’re on a very enjoyable pace now. The car is handling better, it is a worthwhile exercise”. Phil Collins in 5th is on a copybook drive now, thoroughly enjoying the West Cork roads. While Frank Kelly who heads the class 13 contenders in his blue Escort said. “I’m enjoying following Phil Collins’ lines through the stages. I’m trying to get him now to come to the Cork Forestry!” Kevin O’Donoghue has forged into the top 10 and told us he is having all sorts of gearbox problems. The selectors seem to have developed a mind of their own. Killarney man Kevin is however very happy with the way his Escort is handling and said. “We’ve got a massive set up now, been playing with the clicks on the struts all day”.

Damien McCarthy continues to struggle with his Civic gearbox, and what a great job the young man is doing to keep his Honda going and lead class 11. Adrian McElhinney continues to lead the Citroen Racing Trophy contenders in their C2R2s and there is just 6s between Sam Moffett and Barry Evans in the battle for 2nd place. Stanley Ballantine seems to have retired his Lancer in stage 14. Stanley was 2nd in group N. We have no indication as yet as to what has happened. Steve Roberts had a spin half a mile into the Ardfield stage and then his Escort overshot a junction towards the end, which we think Ger O’Connell in a similar Escort to take the lead in class 12. In the Historic Rally Denis & Dan Moynihan in their Mk1 Escort are having a huge battle with Eddie Murphy/John Hickey also in a Mk1 Escort for the lead. After Stage 10 there was just a couple of seconds between them while David Cremin was over 2m back in his Escort closely followed by the Volvo of James O’Mahony.
