In a dramatic turn around Niall Maguire has found a new turn of speed and has went fastest in both stages seven and eight. The Monaghan driver took three seconds from rally leader Elliott on stage seven then really put the pressure on when he took a further twelve seconds on stage eight reducing the leaders advantage to just thirteen seconds. The final stage is the shortened Doonkelly test and this Sligo Rally may very well go down to the wire but are there enough stage kilometres for championship leader Maguire to pose a threat. Melvyn Evans continues his steady run in fourth as he tries to claim the MSA Taracadam championship, while Kevin Barrett seems to have settled for third.

In GpN Garry Jennings continues to lead and was fastest on stage seven by three seconds but Kevin Kelleher turned the tables somewhat by slashing nine seconds from Jennings lead on stage eight but Jennings has a 29 second advantage going into the final stage.

In the Richard Egger Insurance MSA Taracadam championship contenders Richard Clews has retired with a broken diff while Rodger Donnan is still going well in his Puma and leads class six.

Anthony Cairns retired his Subaru after the brakes failed going into a six left and although the car was undamaged it was struck off the road. Jonathan Leonard in the Micra is having a trying day as the kill switch keeps cutting in intermittently leaving the car without power.

Owen Longworth was time keeping at the end of stages 1, 4 and 7 and asked us to let people know that entries are still open for next weekends ALMC and to contact the club if interested and he also confirmed that he will be COC on the Birr Forestry which is definitely running later on in the season.

Some class winners going into second service include Niall Donoghue in class 1, Paki Duffy in Class 3 both in Civics, Rodger Kennedy leads class 7 in his 306, Philip Hart class 9, Enda McLoughlin class 10, Patrick Herity’s Corolla leads class 11 while Noel O’Donnell leads class 12 in his 205. Russell Woods and Ronan Curley lead classes 13 and 14 in their respective Escorts while Andy Mackarel leads class 15. More News Later Michael & Zoe Patterson
