Kenny McKinstry was fastest through stage 8, Beaghs, and then through stage 9 Derek McGarrity and Alastair Fisher tied for quickest time. In the short Beaghs stage there were only a couple of seconds separating the top times and Neil McCance equalled Derek McGarrity and Jonny Greer for 2nd fastest. The Ballypatrick stage started to cut up badly and Kenny McKinstry said at stage finish. “There are a lot of the big stones coming to the surface. I don’t really want to wreck my car. I can feel the cars banging off the transmission tunnel”. Derek McGarrity said. “This is one of the best handling cars I’ve ever been in but I’m still struggling to get the confidence”.

Alastair Fisher remarked about that Ballypatrick stage. “My Lancer is jumping in and out of the ruts”. Raymond Johnston also said. “I’m just not pushing over that rough stuff”. There was a “bus stop” chicane in that Ballypatrick stage which was taken out for the 2nd run. This would explain why the times are slightly faster on the 2nd run through despite the stage being rougher.

Oran Donnelly lost approximately 40s in the stage when something broke underneath his Escort, possibly a hub. This has allowed Trevor Moore back in front for the race for 2wd honours. Ian Cochrane had another solid time through stage 9 and his Lancer continues to hover just outside the top 10 on a total of 40.16.
