Keith Cronin and his guest co driver Derry O’Brien put in a fantastic charge on stages 3 and 4 to score fastest times and draw level with James M Stafford/Frank Dwyer. On the tie-break rule Keith Cronin wins the rally to make it a hat-trick of victories on this event. However, and it is a big however, the results are still provisional as James Stafford may have lost a second or two when there was a hiccup in the start procedure of stage 1.

When Keith Cronin brought his Lancer in here to the finish he commented. “I enjoyed the rally. Derry O’Brien did well for his first time co-driving. It was a difficult rally for me as there was an intermittent misfire in the car. Also I had the biggest scare of my life with two spectators on the road who didn’t hear me coming”. Keith’s co driver Derry just said. “I loved it!” James Stafford commented. “Not too bad a day. Pity about the mix up at the start of the first stage”. Mike Quinn/Grainne McEnery were 2nd for most of the day but then slipped to 3rd. Mike said that he was sitting for quite a long time at the start of stage 4 and the tyres and the car went cold and he didn’t want to push too hard through the stage.

Thomas Fitzmaurice said. “Great day. I drove as hard as I could but wasn’t prepared to push any harder, not with twins on the way!” Sean Flanagan retired his GpN Impreza at service in Ballyheigue because of a blown head gasket. Eamonn Hanley dropped from 11th to 33rd when he had a slow stage 3 time. One of James Foley’s mechanics stripped off and took a dive into the sea at Ballyheigue beach to win a €150 bet which he is giving to charity!

Finally for now our thanks to all who supported and helped with the RallyNews service. Our thanks and congratulations to all at Kerry MC for all the hard work and effort that has gone into making Banna Beach Kerry Mini Rally such a success once again. Thanks as well to Dougie Hughes and Aidan Harper for RallyNews distribution.
