Rally leader Darren Gass was pretty relaxed as he cruised his Superbites backed Impreza into the regroup at Carnbane and told us that the stages were pretty difficult and needed a lot of concentration but he had also kept a lot in hand over the loop and was fastest on all three stages to extend his lead to 45 seconds. John McGlaughlin is still having a pretty difficult time in his Lancer. The Cookstown baker explained that sometimes the car would really hesitate after a gear change then would miss at about 3700 rpm, then it wouldn’t and as a reaction sometimes John would have to push the engine almost beyond where it should be but he still is setting the dominant GpN pace and is pretty solid in second place. George Robinson’s retirement was confirmed by co driver Tommy Speers as a technical issue with the gearbox. Stuart Biggerstaff has dropped back to fourth after suffering a puncture when Stuart admitted to cutting a corner a bit too tight.

Camillus Bradley continues to set the 2wd pace and is also producing some very impressive times and has now moved up to third overall and reckoned he had as good a run over the last three stages as he could get. Declan Boyle has retired with a broken rear link bar on his Mk2 and is now off to get the car fixed and head south for tomorrow’s Circuit of Munster. Alaistair Cochrane had to stop in stage five when he encountered a large dog in the middle of the road but is still going well despite no recee. Finton McGrady continues to have fuel pump problems but also had a huge spin after a SqR when the intercom failed. Davy Armstrong is really coming on song in his little Mk2 and was fourth fastest overall on stage five and is now up to seventh despite suffering a puncture on stage 6 at the last junction. Vivien Hamill is another driver getting on the pace and lies just off the Leaderboard with a total of 46.32 and was full of praise for the rally and was really enjoying himself.

With John McGlaughlin dominating GpN Mark Donnelly is the best of the rest in fifth overall while Cyril Doherty had a good run on stage five, equal third fastest on a 7.56, but lost time with a big overshoot on stage six and is also struggling with a broken handbrake. Brendan Cumiskey had an overshoot on stage five while Raymond Johnston admitted to a spin on stage six but other than that he felt that he had a good run.
