Garry Jennings reinforced his fastest time on the opening stage with another quickest through stage 2, McBride’s Court. Garry surprised even himself as he admitted to over-revving the McKinstry at the stage start and the engine then went on to safe mode for a little bit. Later in the stage spun the Impreza at a hairpin which cost a few more seconds. Seamus Leonard found the 2nd stage “seriously slippy and marbly”. He went on to say that he was driving hard but safe. Niall Maguire told us that his 2nd stage went well but he was still a few seconds down on the other two Impreza WRCs and he has a lot of work to do to make up for his first stage stall.

Wesley Patterson was another to report that although his Escort was on the right tyres he found the stage very gravelly. Manus Kelly lost a few seconds with a spin at a square left, the one with the mirror on the pole. Gary McPhillips had another fabulous time to lead the Mk2 charge.

Camillus Bradley lost a lot of time on the first stage when his Escort drifted wide and damaged a Watts linkage in the rear suspension. Although they eventually finished the stage and got through stage 2 as well Camillus is well back from the leaders. Declan Boyle has a query on his time through the 2nd stage, and if that is resolved it will move him up the leaderboard a couple of places. John O’Donnell is on a total of 15.08 and told us that he clutch in his hired Escort has been slipping from the start.

In Group N Pat Kirk set a scorcher of a time on stage 2 to lead the category although Pat himself thought that he didn’t go that well. Donagh Kelly feels there is something not quite right with a front wishbone on his Lancer and also the car feels a bit nervous under braking. Donagh described his 2nd stage as “average”. Stuart Darcy’s GpN Lancer sounded a bit like a well used vacuum cleaner when it came into service. Sounds like there is something wrong with the transmission.

The Bustard brothers, Trevor & Kenny had some gearbox problems in stage 2. Cyril Doherty had a good run in his GpN Impreza. His total now is 14.31, 3rd in GpN just 1s behind Donagh Kelly. Paul Barrett’s Escort has stopped in stage 1. Geoffrey Dolan’s Sunbeam has new rear springs fitted but had a spin at the first junction of S1. John Cairns was disappointed through stage 2 which he described as his home stage, but he felt his Subaru was suffering from a broken drive shaft.
