There was a real grand stand finish to this Banna Beach Resort Kerry Mini Stages Rally. Alan Ring/Adrian Deasy blitzed the final stage to set fastest time and win the rally by 1s from Thomas Fitzmaurice/Fionn Foley. Fitzmaurice led by 2s before that final stage and when we asked him at the finish if he was disappointed he said. “No not at all. I drove the ass out of it and I didn’t win but that is what makes good rallying”. Alan Ring told us “We were 15s faster the 2nd time through the stage. We picked a soft slick tyre and committed highly in places. The new engine gave no trouble. In overall terms it was a good rally”. For 39 year old Alan who has been rallying for 8 years this was his first outright rally win so of course it was a good rally!

Mike Quinn/Grainne McEnery gave it a great blast towards the end and their Escort was a very solid 3rd o/a. Shane Maguire/Enda Sherry took 4th o/a and their performance will almost certainly net them the Top Part West coast C/ship title. Fergus O’Meara/Liam Brennan settled down well towards the end and have won class 14 as well as being 5th o/a.

Sean Flanagan/Diarmuid French round off the top 6 in their GpN Impreza. Sean joked earlier in the day that he was just out for a Sunday drive but really he put up a good performance and it was a top result for co driver Diarmuid who came out of rally retirement for today.

The above results are still very unofficial and we are thinking particularly of car 22 Richard & John Burke in their Impreza. They were 5th o/a after SS3 but have incurred a 15s road penalty which has knocked them back to 6th equal. They still win cl.15. Pat Kelly/Jonathan Folan had a good run in their Subaru to win cl.8 and were 9th o/a.

Finally for now well done to Clerk of the Course Jakes Kelly and all the hard working Kerry MC team. Once again it was a very enjoyable as well as professional rally. Our thanks as well to everyone who supported and helped with our RallyNews service.
