It was certainly nip and tuck between the top 3 cars over the Torr Head stage with McGarrity being 1s faster than McCloskey and Sean Devine being a further 3s back. Up Glendun the top 3 cars beat the “bogey” time so therefore it became a bit academic. Unfortunately top group N runner Neil McCance crashed his Lancer out on Glendun. Neil’s accident happened just after a wet patch when the car stepped out of line very slightly on a following corner, nudged the bank and somersaulted over a wall into a field. Happily Neil and co driver Sean Ferris were uninjured. Derek McGarrity also reported a bit of a moment on the wet patch but it was no real problem. Connor McCloskey said it has taken him a mile or two to settle into the Subaru but it was no problem really and he’s going well.

Sean Devine reckons his older model S11 just hasn’t got the edge of the S12s in front. John McKeown retired his Escort Cosworth following his earlier gearbox trouble. Kieran Graffin’s Lancer was suffering a slipping clutch over the last few stages and his total is now 25.49.2. Cathal Rogers continues to lead group N and seems to be going really well.

On the Cambrian Rally in North Wales Frank Kelly is leading the Silver Star contenders and is 21st overall. Back here in north Antrim Alan Carmichael was hoping to get his Lancer front steering geometry rejigged here at service. Adrian Hetherington lost a lot of time over the last few stages because of a misfire in his Escort. Declan McNaughton is driving a brilliant rally so far and reports no problems and the local man is best of the rear wheel drive contenders. Andrew Bushe is best of the front wheel drive in his cracking little Saxo. Andrew is setting great times despite some wheel spin from the peaky little French machine.

Brian Muldoon lost a few seconds over stages 3 and 4 as his co driver took ill and couldn’t read the notes. Alastair Cochrane lost a few seconds but still has a good total of 25.29, Alastair felt he was too cautious on the icy section at the top of Glendun. Colm McFall had no intercom over the first couple of stages but still went extremely well. Gerard McFall struggled through stage 4 as a front wheel bearing started to collapse on his Escort Cosworth. Gary Cairns struggled a bit with a blowing manifold on his Lancer. Rodney White had a good run through stage 3 and 4 and his total now is 24.59.4.
