Daragh O’Riordan and his co driver Tony McDaid in their Impreza WRC S12 set the fastest time over Molls Gap this morning to extend their lead on this Killarney Rally of the Lakes. Conditions were once again fine and Midleton man Daragh was able to get the hammer down and indeed has set the fastest time on the Gap for the entire weekend. This should earn Daragh the coveted Bertie Fisher Award.

All the top International field made it through the Gap this morning so that the leaderboard remains relatively unchanged. There was a big change though in the National section with overnight leader Fergus O’Meara and his co driver Liam Brennan sidelined on the Gap with reported mechanical problem to their Escort.

Mark Sheahan continues to lead the Citroen Racing Trophy from Joe Shrimpton with Scott McElhinney 3rd. Joe McGonigle who retired his Citroen yesterday with a mechanical problem was fastest of the special Sunday Run competitors.

Looking back to yesterday’s Pirelli International Rally in Cumbria, Robert Barrable and Jonny Greer were 2nd and 3rd in their respective Skodas behind winner David Bogie. Marty McCormack won the 2 wheel drive section in his Citroen DS3 while Craig Breen was 3rd in the 2wd section, 2nd in class to Finnish driver Korhonen in a similar Fiesta. Mark Donnelly battled back from his 1m40s penalty to finish 1st in class R3 in his Clio.

Finally for now, a reminder from Mick Moriarty of the Farranfore Centra that the Rally Prizegiving tonight in the Gleneagle Hotel promises to be a great night and the band is Hugo and the Off The Cuff from Donegal!
