With just 3 stages remaining on this Sligo Rally the gap between 1st and 2nd is down to just 8s. Robert Barrable was fastest through stages 4 and 5 and then on stage 6 Daragh O’Riordan came blasting back with a time 15s ahead of the rally leader. Robert commented here at service that everything was well but he was caught slightly off guard at the start of stage 6. Daragh O’Riordan joked. “We won’t put the Subaru on the trailer just yet”. The Midleton man went on to say that he is feeling a lot better than he was this morning and that 6th stage really suited him. The stages have dried out and there’s not as much gravel as he thought there might have been. Niall Maguire lost a couple of seconds in stage 4 when his Subaru hit a chicane and stalled.

Kevin Barrett had a lucky escape in stage 5 when his Subaru skidded in and out of a ditch. Garry Jennings is the fastest of the conventional group N cars despite a small worry about a manifold gasket. Sam Moffett is going well in his similar Lancer, especially since engineer Gerry McGarrity tweaked the suspension. Shane Maguire is pretty close to the pace but feels his GpN Impreza lacks the ultimate top speed for some of the quicker sections. Liam McCarthy’s Corolla WRC is suffering from a down on boost engine, something to do with a high air temperature sensor possibly sending the wrong message.

Trevor Bustard is going very well today even though his Lancer is slightly down on boost power. Washington James picked an intermediate tyre for that loop of stages that transpired to be an unfortunate choice as the roads became bon e dry.

Frank Kelly leads class 13 and says the car is working brilliantly. He loves the Blast Hill stage where he can vent his frustration as regards the difficulty with the other 2 stages. Andrew Mullen lost time when his Lancer overshot a square right in SS5. James Cassidy has put his Escort off the road. Dominic McLoughlin has retired his rwd Peugeot following gearbox troubles. Michael Curran crashed his Escort off the road earlier today. Ryan McCloskey & Peter Curran retired their Escort on stage 4 with a damaged engine. Peter Barrable/Paddy Robinson put their Citroen in a ditch earlier today having been caught out on a gravelly square right.
