Darren Gass was almost 3s faster than his closes pursuer Kenny McKinstry through stage 6, Darren looking very composed and settled in his left hand drive Subaru. He has no problems to report, nor indeed has Kenny McKinstry, but at the same time Kenny has no answer to the car in front. Garry Jennings had an ear to ear grin in place when he brought his Lancer into the finish of the stage and he commented that he just loved the gravel sections. Garry is still pushing very hard and sees his 3rd place very much under threat from the rejuvenated Denis Biggerstaff. Denis is of course driving a world rally car whereas Garry is in a GpN machine, but both are fighting for a podium place. Denis did say he had a major moment in that 6th stage when he arrived into a corner 30mph too fast!

Mark Doyle in 5th position is making no real impression on the cars in front but still setting a very fast pace. Derek McGeehan in 6th feels he is being hampered slightly by the dust cloud kicked up by McKinstry’s Subaru. Gary White is trying very hard to hold on to his 8th position behind Emma McKinstry. Finaghy garage man Gary feels his car lacks power through the first half of the stage until the old type water injection system gets to work and lowers the temperature of the inlet manifold which then produces more power. Emma was another driver to report a huge moment on that 6th stage. Her Subaru nearly came to grief on the far side of the course from the paddock. Emma admitted that she scared the daylights out of herself.

Liam Ryan has retired his GpN Lancer. The Cashel man was 9th o/a and 2nd in GpN but a broken drive shaft has sidelined him.

In the battle of the Mk2 Escorts Wesley Patterson still holds the upper hand sand said of his stage 6 run. “It was really good, smoking!” Wesley’s time was 1.50.6 then there was a clutch of drivers – Mickey Conlon, Adrian Hetherington, Damien Toner, James Kennedy & Martin Teggart all on 1.53.
