Robin Phillips arrived here at service having extended their lead to 11 seconds after the demanding Slieve Gullion and Cooley Mountain stages despite suffering a small under bonnet fire on SS2 and no anti-lag towards the end of stage four.  Robin says "it sure makes the marshalls jump when they see a wee fire, it was no problem just some lagging on a new sump guard".

David Armstrong set an absolute storming time over Cooley Mountain, 8.55 compared to next best man Phillips on 9.03, David reporting no problems in his Escort Cosworth.  James Gillen broke a tie-bar on stage 3, and lost his intercom for the last three miles of stage four, not being able to hear the pacenotes from co-driver Victor Carruthers but still set a very good time of 9.07.

The retirements are coming thick and fast, Trevor Moore and Richard Curry have retired after Big Gullion with broken rear suspension following a spin on stage two, Wesley Patterson who was lying second overall is reported to be pulled up in a lay-by on the Cooley stage, Richard Hall stopped after stage two while Gary White went into stage four but as yet has not appeared here at service.  GpN runner Jim Crozier blew his engine in stage 2, Small Gullion, while Martin Teggart had no third or fourth gear arriving into service and has decided to call it a day.

Denis Biggerstaff lies 8th and says "I am not that quick here" which explains his slightly slower stage times.  The two wheel drive boys continue to show their pace, with Glen Allen and Camillus Bradley lying fourth and fifth respectively in their Mk2 Escorts, both drivers well on the boil after last weekends Donegal.

In GpN Richard Hogg and Billy McCullins lie just of the leaderboard on a total of 20.04 with Raymond Johnston in his Impreza on 20.17 and Raymond Mason on 20.28, while Maurice Moffatt in his 205 has a total of 20.28 after a spin on stage 3.
