Brendan Cumiskey in his Fiesta R5 was fastest through stage 7 (Old Bailey) and then despite engine worries Derek McGarrity was the faster of the two through stage 8, Benone Beach. When Derek McGarrity arrived into service there was frantic work by the mechanics to try to trace a shortfall in his Fiesta WRC’s turbo boost. The cars were only in service for a few minutes and McGarrity had to head out to stage 9 without any clear resolution to the problems. The puzzling thing is that Derek maintained that the turbo boost was down for both stages 7 and 8 but yet his times were really good. Kenny McKinstry went a lot better through those last 2 stages, although he was a little worried about wisps of smoke appearing from under his Subaru bonnet. Emma McKinstry had a really good run to hold on to her 3rd position and was faster than 4th placed Camillus Bradley in both stages. Camillus was though fastest 2 wheel drive. John Devlin in his Sunbeam lost his advantage now that the roads up at Magilligan have dried.

Martin Cairns seemed out of sorts at the finish of SS8 and reported launch problems with his Fiesta WRC and also some niggly problems mostly of his own making. Fintan McGrady reported yet another overshoot. Kyle White in the Citroen also had an overshoot and dropped half a second to Adam Bustard, although Kyle still holds the overall advantage in the race for class 4 honours. Drew Wylie leads his Historic category in his Appendix K Escort. Drew told us that the final chicane in stage 8 had opened up with the passage of the previous cars so he took a very deep breath and straight lined it! Sean Devlin in his Anglia leads the other Historic class from Malcolm Pedlow (BMW 2002).

Latest Rally Finland after stage 19 – Kris Meeke/Paul Nagle in their Citroen have a 41.2s lead on Latvala with Craig Breen 3rd.
