Despite the heavy overnight rain the drivers made no real comment on any puddles on that opening 13km stage outside Slane. As can be seen above Kevin Lynch was fastest, Kevin back into his Subaru which was damaged on the Killarney Rally of the Lakes. He commented at stage finish. “Trying to get the whole thing settled down sir”.

Kenny McKinstry who was competing yesterday at Loughgall in Tom Geraghty’s Mk2 Escort, said. “I’m still thinking Escort instead of Subaru, throwing it into the corners”.

No.1 on the road Paddy White said he still feels very rust and indeed stalled his Focus WRC on the start line of the stage.

In the battle of the Mitsubishi Lancers Damian Tourish set the pace. He reported no troubles. Colm Murphy seemed a little subdued at stage finish. Colm has Brian Duggan co driving today for the first time. Owen Murphy had a wire come off the ECU before the stage but then went well. Fergal Costello spun his Lancer and dropped a bit of time, stopped the clocks on 8.03.

Pat Donegan was fastest of the Mk2 Escort drivers from Trevor Mulligan while Maurice Moffett was just a few seconds down on a total of 7.49.

Further times included: Brendan Cumiskey on 7.55: Tom Holton was just a second down on his fellow Celica driver Mark Courtney, Tom’s time 7.45.

Stephen Cullen came in from the reserves, he has No.135 on his GpN Impreza and he recorded 8.25. Emma McKinstry told us that she made a mess of one of the hairpins and her time in her Impreza WRC was 7.58. Adrian Quinn in his Lancer did 8.04.
